Librarian for the Day!

It is that time of year again! Today we had to special St. Philip's students as Librarian's for the Day. So I'm handing over the Falcon's Fables to them so they can tell you about their day.

It was fun because it was the best day at the school for us. In the library we got to check out the books. We read to the kinder gardeners. My sister picked the books and she choose Arthur's Underwear and Arthur's Chicken Pox by Marc Brown.

We made a quiz for the third graders. It was about the library. Here are some of the questions we asked.

    1. What kind of reference tools do we have online? (Databases and Encyclopedias)
    2. What type of book is the World Book? (Encyclopedia)
    3. What is our library website called? (The Falcon's Fables)
    4. What type of library tool is an encyclopedia? (Reference tool)
    5. If you are reading a book and you don't understand a word, what reference tool can you use to find the meaning of the word? (A dictionary)
    6. If you were trying to find a fiction book by Betty G. Birney what would the call number be? (FIC BIR)
    7. If you were to find a book on California, what part of the library would it be in? (The Non Fiction Section)
    8. Can you check out a reference book? (No)
    9. What are some ways in which you can use your Destiny Quest account? (Recommend books, write reviews, save books to lists, put books on hold, make friends)
    10. If you aren't finished with your library book and it is due what can you do with your book to keep it for another week? (Renew it!)

If a student got the answer right, they would get a book from the book box to keep.

Today, was a lot of fun.

Elayna Goepel is Librarian of the Day

Hi my name is Elayna, I was pleased to be librarian of the day today!! I did many fun things today such as: reading to the first graders and the third graders. To the first graders I read Duck for President by Doreen Cronin. The kids seemed to really enjoy it. They were laughing and smiling which made me happy! To the third graders I read Babar Comes to America which was a pretty good book too. The kids seemed to like the fact that an elephant was in charge of France!! My favorite part of the day was when I got to check in and out of the books, although it was a task to find their names in the book, I still had fun and eventually got the hang of it. the kids were very patient with me! Over all it was a fantastic day and it
has inspired me to go home and organize all of my book shelves just like Ms. Natalie does in the Library!!

Alenna Zweiback is Librarian for the Day

Hi I am Alenna and I was Librarian for the day and  it was really fun. I got to read,"I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed A Pie and All Living Creatures" to the first graders. I also got to check in and out books and let my class have free day. I got to have a little picnic in the Library with three of my friends and then Edwin came to join us for the rest of the day. I also got to cut out call numbers to make books easier to find. Also, I got to find the place where some books go then I got to just help with some more stuff and have fun.

I wish I could be Librarian for the Day everyday. Ms. Natalie is the best Librarian here at St. Philip the Apostle School! Someday I think I might be a Librarian someday. Read Lots! Love, Alenna

Our Last Librarian of the Day.

As the school year rapidly comes to an end we welcomed our very last librarian of the day. Corinne Gray, 1st grader, was a delight to have as temporary librarian. She was happy and friendly with every student loving her beautiful smiles. As always I pass off the blog to her. Thank you Corinne!

My name is Corinne. I won Librarian for the Day at the auction. I got to check out books for other people. I got to read some books. I played on the computer. My favorite book in the library is There is a Bird on Your Head by Mo Willems. I like this book because at the end the pigeon from Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus is eating a hot dog in the birds nest. You can have lots of fun at the library. Sometimes it is crazy. Sometimes it is quiet but you can do anything. Bye Bye!!!

Our 2nd Librarian of the Day!!!!

Falcon here again. I am just saying a quick hi and then turning the Falcon's Fables over to 1st grader Ryan Miller. He is the librarian today and has been doing a wonderful job. Every class received a free day and we listened to The Beatles because Ryan likes to play it on Rock Band!

Hi I am Ryan. I felt a little nervous being librarian. After I started being librarian I felt glad. Because it was fun.

My favorite book in the library is If I Ran the Zoo by Dr. Seuss. It's a good book and I like the animals in it.

Librarian's of the Day

Today the library had two very special guest librarians. Miss Sarah Hankins and Mr. Dylan Hankins. They are both in 6th grade and won the Librarian for the Day at the SP Auction. We have had so much fun today! They wanted to share the books they choose to read to the 1st grade classes. So without further ado, I turn the Falcon's Fables over to them!

Hi! I am Librarian Sarah Hankins and this Falcon's Fables is going to be centering on Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. This book is a wide collection of poems ranging from the funny to the mysterious. The illustrations are interesting as well and help portray the story in the poems. The author, Shel Silverstein, is also the author of The Giving Tree and many other books of prose and poetry. My favorite poem is called The Loser. The Loser is about a boy who looses his head and talks about how he can find it. He runs into a problem. He can't look for his head, because his eyes are on it. He can't call to it because, his mouth is on it. But he couldn't hear it anyway, because his ears are on it. He decides to rest on a rock. The illustration shows that the boy was sitting on his head which was what he thought was a rock! If you like fun stories, this will be a wonderful book for you and you'll want to read every poem in the book in one day. Read it!!! Read it Now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
